Our solar system has a Fortress backup battery that allows us to have power in the event of an outage. The battery also enables us to draw from battery power during peak grid power times, avoiding the higher cost. We have also installed a critical load panel that powers only the essentials such as lights, computers, well pump, etc, during an outage. Power only the critical load panel during an outage allows for our backup battery to last longer. Our office is able to function normally during an outage. The knife switch located next to the Sol-Ark inverter can simulate an outage by cutting grid power. When the switch is pulled and grid power is shut off, the switch to backup power happens instantly. Both the Sol-Ark inverter and TIGO optimizers have WIFI capabilities allowing us to track and monitor our solar system directly on our phones through apps.
